Acting has helped shape how I think about leadership and design.

Set the ego aside.

Use experience to inform my work.

Connect with the audience.

I lead happy teams that accelerate product-led development.

Designers should be curious and go deep with customers and technology.

Through mentorship and creating safe spaces for exploration, I lead Design to engage earlier in the product cycle so they can help teams discover the adjacent possible.

To partner with Product, designers should deeply understand customer needs, not just apply a design system to requirements.

To work with Engineering, designers should dive in and ask questions to become fluent with technical constraints and opportunities.

I’ve gone 0 to 1 many times, which has taught me that every product has green field space to explore.

Design teams thrive when boldly exploring.

My teams and I have shipped v1 products in B2B, B2C, SaaS, and mobile at Tableau (Cloud, Prep, Vizable) and Microsoft (Tablet PC, MSN, Team Manager, Amalga, HealthVault).

I co-founded and led design at a profitable product studio and two startups that had successful exits via acquisition.

Compassionate leadership creates safety for the team to take risks and be bold.

Listening with heart and speaking with authenticity come with practice. I have over 100 hours of professional development in listening and coaching and have led teams for over a decade.

I seek to create a safe space for all. When people can share their fears and concerns, they become comfortable taking risks and bringing more of their brilliance to bear.

Design teams need to change how they operate as companies grow.

In 7 years, Tableau grew 10× in employees and revenue, with the fastest-ever B2B revenue growth and a successful IPO.

I built the Product Design team from four people in one office to 40 people across four time zones with 2 levels of management.

The Design team led the product org in diversity with teammates from 5 continents and majority-female membership and leadership.

I solve strategic puzzles where deep tech meets complex user needs.

Design Work

I love tackling the complexity of rich datasets, gnarly algorithms, and tricky customer needs.

I use pragmatic, principled tools that evoke curiosity, empathy, and innovation. (Don’t rely only on guidelines and systems. They’re the paint, not the painter.)

I help other designers gain confidence to lean in and proactively partner with Product to know what customers want.

Here are some examples of my work.

OBSERVABLE NOTEBOOKS

What good are beautiful charts if only the data devs see them?

To expand audience and licensing revenue, I extended the reach of a tool originally created for engineers so data consumers and other business users could discover how to make meaningful contributions.
